NEW DISCUSSION
The SWAT then brainstormed the uses, expectations and wish list for the GIS Commons. Eric proposed the following mission statement: The GIS Commons will be a state-of-the-art learning environment for geographic information science. He also indicated that the core components of GIS include: the science of GIS, GPS, remote sensing, thematic imaging and telemetry. A PowerPoint presentation has been developed for another meeting that further explains GIS. This will be posted to the website.

Rebecca requested that we add research to the mission statement, i.e. ?state-of-the-art learning and research environment??.
