July 14, 2005 Meeting Minutes
GIScience Commons SWAT
Action items/meeting minutes from July 14
Seaton 164H
In attendance: Craig Beardsley, Eric Bernard, Rick Chubb, Dave Debusman, Rebecca Gould, Shawn Hutchinson, Ron Jones, Marty Vanier, and Steve Welch
The group shared the space plans provided by Eric and the recommendations from the Architecture faculty for changes to the plan. The team discussed the needs for flexible, mobile workstations that allow for reconfiguring. We also discussed the equipment that would need to be on/near a workstation including a GPS device, hard drive, and dual monitors. The floor in the workstation area needs phone, data, electricity, and microphone plug-in capability to allow for reconfiguring. The floor could be elevated to accommodate these needs.
Items to be included in the computer storage area are a plotter, printer and server. We briefly discussed the need for an emergency generator for UPS.
Recommendations were made to outfit the conference room with 10 computers. These could be laptops or e-terminals. A sample conference table with these capabilities can be found at http://www.smartdesks.com/cti-conference-tables.asp. The conference room needs wireless capability. The wall separating the conference room would be a mobile, glass (writable wall) that allows for projection from inside the conference room or within the workstation area.
The entry to the GIS Commons would be a simple reception area with display (LCD/plasma) capabilities.
Craig shared examples of emergency issues that might be "managed" from the space including developing maps for a localized response, school bus schedules/routes, planning decisions, etc.
Action item: Rick will have the four Herman Miller articles provided by Eric to the GIScience Commons website.
Action item: Eric will rework the space plan to include the recommendations made during the meeting and by the Architecture faculty.
